Contents overview
The purpose of this course is to teach the basics of "Operations Research" to the Bachelor students and to give an overview of essential subareas of OR. Basic information on the structure and functioning of OR models is given and the importance of computer science for the treatment of OR models is presented. In detail, mixing problems, classical transport problems, assignment problems and traveling salesman problems are treated first. Duality and its economic interpretation are presented and a simplex method for solving linear optimization problems is taught or repeated.
Schedule
The course will take place in presence. Up-to-date information on this can be found in the associated Moodle course. However, the following are planned
- Uploading of a comprehensive lecture notes, extended by numerous worked examples, in Moodle
- Upload of sample solutions to exercises and tutorials
- uploading of lecture videos from the previous year
- a tutorial will be held in digital form.
- Consultation hours in presence as well as online
- few larger exercise notes in Moodle for processing in groups (forum for formation of groups) - voluntary submissions will be corrected (possibility to gain bonus points for exams)
- voluntary short tests to check the current state of knowledge
- List of important ebooks provided by the university library (in Moodle) - enable self-study and consolidation of lecture material
